Northwest Missouri State University is committed to providing options, support and assistance to victims of sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and/or stalking to ensure that they can continue to participate in university programs, activities, and employment. All victims and accused have the following rights.
All students and employees have the right to:
- Make a report to the University Police Department.
- Have disclosures of domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and sexual assault treated seriously.
- Make a decision about whether or not to disclose a violation and participate in the Title IX process and/or criminal justice process free from pressure from Northwest.
- Participate in a process that is fair, impartial (neutral), and provides adequate notice and a meaningful opportunity to be heard.
- Be treated with dignity and to receive from Northwest, courteous, fair, and respectful health care and counseling services.
- Be free from any suggestion that the reporting individual or victim is at fault when these violations are committed, or should have acted in a different manner to avoid such violations.
- Describe the incident to as few Northwest representatives as practical, and not to be required to unnecessarily repeat a description of the incident.
- Be free from retaliation by Northwest, the victim/reporter, the accused and/or respondent, and/or their friends, family and acquaintances within the jurisdiction of Northwest.
- Access to one level of appeal of a resolution.
- Be accompanied by an advisor of choice throughout the Title IX process, particularly the hearing.
- When permissible under the Title IX regulations, involved parties are afforded the opportunity to consider an informal resolution to a Title IX allegation.
